Join Sacramento region’s video game developers for a fun weekend of making games with hundreds of other locations across the world. \nGGJ Sacramento will be held at Lab 7 Coworking starting at 5:00pm on Friday\, February 3rd and ending on 5:00pm on Sunday\, February 5th. The hours for this year’s jam will be: \nFriday: 5:00pm – 10:00pm\nSaturday: 9:00am – 10:00pm\nSunday: 9:00am – 5:00pm \nAs part of our hybrid event planning\, this event will also be hosted on our Discord server for those that which to participate virtually. \nAll participants should register for the event on the official GGJ site for our location. You can use this link to register: https://globalgamejam.org/2023/jam-sites/ggj-sacramento-2023 \nWhile we will be hosting the traditional 48-hour weekend jam\, the jam is officially open anytime from Monday\, January 30th through February 5th with the theme being announced on Saturday\, January 28th at 10:00am PST. DESCRIPTION:Progressive Game Jam 7 kicks off with a virtual conference on Thursday\, July 29th\, 2021 at 5:00pm. \nPGJ7 will be only 1 month long in 2021\, occurring through the month of Aug. Project ideation and presentations and team building will all occur at this kick-off meeting prior to the jam officially starting on Aug. 1. We strongly encourage our participants to take this time to get their team setup with the tools and processes they will need for the jam prior to the official launch. \nThere will be two in-person/virtual meetups for the PGJ teams in August. DESCRIPTION:The world’s largest game jam comes back to Sacramento in 2020. Participate in a 48 hour game jam along with numerous other sites across the globe to produce one of the thousands of games that this event generates each year. \nThe Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event (game creation) taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world\, we could come together\, be creative\, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal. The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games\, while at the same time exploring the process of development\, be it programming\, iterative design\, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 48 hour development cycle. The GGJ encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity.\n\nThe structure of a jam is usually that everyone gathers on Friday late afternoon\, watches a short video keynote with advice from leading game developers\, and then a secret theme is announced. All sites worldwide are then challenged to make games based on that same theme\, with games to be completed by Sunday afternoon. In January 2019\, we had 860 locations in 113 countries create 9\,010 games in one weekend! GGJ 2020 is 31 January – 2 February. GGJ Sacramento will be held at Lab 7 Coworking. The jam is known for helping foster new friendships\, increase confidence and opportunities within the community. The jam is always an intellectual challenge. People are invited to explore new technology tools\, trying on new roles in development and testing their skills to do something that requires them to design\, develop create\, test and make a new game in the time span of 48 hours.\n\nThe GGJ stimulates collaboration and is not a competition.\n\n\nGGJ Sacramento 2020 will not be open for the contiguous 48 hours this year. Hours will be as follows:\n\nFri.\, Jan 31st – 6:00PM – 9:00PM\nSat.\, Feb 1st – 9:00AM – 9:00PM\nSun.\, Feb 2nd – 9:00AM – 5:00PM\n\nAfter the jam ends\, we’ll have each team present their game\n\nYou must register for this event on the official GGJ site\, https://globalgamejam.org/2020/jam-sites/ggj-sacramento\n\nThis is an 18+ event. DESCRIPTION:This month’s game jam will include a demo/feedback session with our special guests from EA Capital Games. Don’t miss this opportunity to get valuable feedback on your progress and state of your game right before Capital Creative Showcase. \nIn its 5th year\, the Progressive Game Jam is an ongoing annual game jam designed to provide participants with a team and enough time necessary to make a quality video game in 9 months. \nThe Sacramento Developer Collective and Square One Clubs are once again hosting this year’s PGJ\, and we’ll provide guidance and mentoring\, and a place to meet once a month for the next 9 months. \nThe Progressive Game Jam is a 9 month long game jam where you work with a dedicated team on a single video game. The goal is to build as complete a video game as possible in that time\, and to gain valuable development skills\, and learn just what it takes to make a full video game. The Sacramento Developer Collective and Square One Clubs are dedicated to helping you along the way by providing guidance\, mentorship\, and support to help you achieve your goal. \nThis event is free and open to everyone. All skills are welcome\, whether you are a programmer\, artist\, level designer\, sound engineer\, storyteller\, or simply just want to help provide ideas for a game. That includes all skill-levels from novice to expert\, or maybe you are just learning and looking for a great place to start. Everyone is welcome. \nIf you have equipment or software\, you are encouraged to bring them. Laptops work great. Papers and pens do too! If you don’t\, that’s OK too. Your creative ideas and input are still valuable\, and usually someone on your team will share or let you work with them. Square One Clubs will provide enough electricity and high-speed Internet for everyone. We’ll also have whiteboards available for brainstorming ideas. \nFrom time to time\, we’ll have a sponsor bring in lunch\, but generally lunch is your responsibility. Check on the event pages for those lunch opportunities before you come. You are welcome to bring food and drink to eat\, and there are several venues in the area around Square One Clubs. We’ll have them posted for your convenience. \nWhile we encourage you to show up for the first event where games are pitched and teams are formed\, if you just can’t make it\, don’t worry. Teams tend to change a little throughout the event\, and it’s always possible to come in late and join a team. \nGood Luck to the Class of 2019!

DESCRIPTION:What is GGJ NEXT™? \nGGJ NEXT provides both educational opportunities to learn about game development and a yearly jam for young people age 12-17. \nThe GGJ NEXT jam aims to bring together talented young people within their school and community. It is a unique opportunity for students to learn new STEAM skills\, and improve their creative thinking and exploration in a safe space. \nThe GGJ NEXT jam will happen all over the globe based around a central theme. Over 50 locations worldwide will be hosting 1 to 5 day game jams in the month of July. Now young creators can be a part of the Global Game Jam sensation that’s been going on for over 10 years. \nPlease note! This will be a 2-day game jam from 10:00am – 6:00pm on Saturday\, July 13th & Sunday\, July 14th. Participants must be picked up no later than 6:00pm on each day. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early for pickup. \nThe game jam is open to ages 12 – 17 \nA limited amount of computer resources will be available at the location. Participants may bring their own computer or laptop. \nThis event is Free courtesy of our sponsors.
