SUMMARY:World Dream Game Jam
DESCRIPTION:Sacramento Developer Collective would like to present our next Game Jam! Now that we’ve got our monthly Game Jam series\, here’s our #WorldDreamJam for this Sept 25th\, 2021! \nWorld Dream Day is a day of inspiration\, reflection\, and celebration. We’d like to observe this day where we open up people’s chances to share your dream or vision of what positive things you would like to see happen in your community. You can share your dream in the form of a narrative design\, music soundtracks\, or anything into a game asset or game! \nIf you have a dream of working in a particular profession or hobby\, take the first step to make it happen. Maybe you aspire to write a story-driven game or a video game soundtrack someday. World Dream Day is a great day to write the first chapter! No matter how you choose to observe it\, share it on social media with #WorldDreamDay and #WorldDreamJam \nThis game jam will be 24 hours long and we look forward to seeing what you guys end up making 🙂 \nRSVP: bit.ly/sdcwdj \nSubmissions\nVideo game assets on their own OR a full-fledged game! \nAnything that reflects what your dream and vision is in life 🙂 \nTheme\nWhat’s your dream? What’s your mission? \nIt can be a personal dream of yours or you can interpret it in any way you’d like for the game jam 🙂 \n————————————————————— \nIf you’d like to create teams\, come join us in our Discord and we have some Game Jam channels for you to work in 🙂 \nSome of the core functionalities of every game has: programming\, art\, audio\, and/or design. Some games don’t need all of them\, which is still just as doable\, like tabletop games that don’t need code or audio. \nWhat if I never made a game before?\nSometimes trying to even start a game is the hardest (and best!) part! \nA good way to get started is to follow a tutorial to get a jumpstart and after that\, you can add all the other elements to really make it your own creation! \nMore info can be found on our itch.io page —> https://itch.io/jam/world-dream-jam

SUMMARY:No Code Jam #2
DESCRIPTION:Here’s the challenge… make a game in 48 hours with no code. With countless no code tools at your disposal\, what game will you make? \nWelcome to No Code Jam #2! We’re booting up our monthly game jams again with little twists here and there 🙂 \nWe’re coming back with one of our most attended Game Jams from last year… NoCode Jam!!! You might recognize this jam\, and if you do\, you’ll be pleased to see we’re making our No Code Jam an annual event! \nAll Disciplines Welcome! So stay tuned! \n/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / \nWhat does No Code mean for this Game Jam? \nNo Code noun\n/nō-kōd/\n1 :a style of game development characterized by the use of visual scripting\, node editors\, GUI’s\, drag n’ drop and more. These tools empower creators who do not know how to code or have just started their journey. This also includes those who know how to code\, but want to explore new tools to augment their workflows. \n/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / \nIf you’d still like to code for your game\, that’s fine\, so long as you incorporate a no code tool for your submission to be valid. If you make your own no code tool for the jam and use it in your game\, that’s cool too! Please specify that in your submission. If you already have your own custom no code tool\, use that! (And maybe share that too!) \n/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / \nTheme: TBD \nCome join us in our Discord! We have Game Jam channels for you to work in if you’d like to create teams 🙂 \nhttps://discord.gg/ZJPvGZf \nOur theme will be announced the day of the jam! <3 \n/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / \nGame Jam Link: http://bit.ly/sdcncj2

SUMMARY:GGJ Sacramento 2020
DESCRIPTION:The world’s largest game jam comes back to Sacramento in 2020. Participate in a 48 hour game jam along with numerous other sites across the globe to produce one of the thousands of games that this event generates each year. \nThe Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event (game creation) taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world\, we could come together\, be creative\, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal. The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games\, while at the same time exploring the process of development\, be it programming\, iterative design\, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 48 hour development cycle. The GGJ encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity.\n\nThe structure of a jam is usually that everyone gathers on Friday late afternoon\, watches a short video keynote with advice from leading game developers\, and then a secret theme is announced. All sites worldwide are then challenged to make games based on that same theme\, with games to be completed by Sunday afternoon. In January 2019\, we had 860 locations in 113 countries create 9\,010 games in one weekend! GGJ 2020 is 31 January – 2 February. GGJ Sacramento will be held at Lab 7 Coworking. The jam is known for helping foster new friendships\, increase confidence and opportunities within the community. The jam is always an intellectual challenge. People are invited to explore new technology tools\, trying on new roles in development and testing their skills to do something that requires them to design\, develop create\, test and make a new game in the time span of 48 hours.\n\nThe GGJ stimulates collaboration and is not a competition.\n\n\nGGJ Sacramento 2020 will not be open for the contiguous 48 hours this year. Hours will be as follows:\n\nFri.\, Jan 31st – 6:00PM – 9:00PM\nSat.\, Feb 1st – 9:00AM – 9:00PM\nSun.\, Feb 2nd – 9:00AM – 5:00PM\n\nAfter the jam ends\, we’ll have each team present their game\n\nYou must register for this event on the official GGJ site\, https://globalgamejam.org/2020/jam-sites/ggj-sacramento\n\nThis is an 18+ event. Minors may only attend if they are accompanied at all times by a parent or legal guardian.

SUMMARY:Progressive Game Jam Demo/Feedback Day
DESCRIPTION:This month’s game jam will include a demo/feedback session with our special guests from EA Capital Games. Don’t miss this opportunity to get valuable feedback on your progress and state of your game right before Capital Creative Showcase. \nIn its 5th year\, the Progressive Game Jam is an ongoing annual game jam designed to provide participants with a team and enough time necessary to make a quality video game in 9 months. \nThe Sacramento Developer Collective and Square One Clubs are once again hosting this year’s PGJ\, and we’ll provide guidance and mentoring\, and a place to meet once a month for the next 9 months. \nThe Progressive Game Jam is a 9 month long game jam where you work with a dedicated team on a single video game. The goal is to build as complete a video game as possible in that time\, and to gain valuable development skills\, and learn just what it takes to make a full video game. The Sacramento Developer Collective and Square One Clubs are dedicated to helping you along the way by providing guidance\, mentorship\, and support to help you achieve your goal. \nThis event is free and open to everyone. All skills are welcome\, whether you are a programmer\, artist\, level designer\, sound engineer\, storyteller\, or simply just want to help provide ideas for a game. That includes all skill-levels from novice to expert\, or maybe you are just learning and looking for a great place to start. Everyone is welcome. \nIf you have equipment or software\, you are encouraged to bring them. Laptops work great. Papers and pens do too! If you don’t\, that’s OK too. Your creative ideas and input are still valuable\, and usually someone on your team will share or let you work with them. Square One Clubs will provide enough electricity and high-speed Internet for everyone. We’ll also have whiteboards available for brainstorming ideas. \nFrom time to time\, we’ll have a sponsor bring in lunch\, but generally lunch is your responsibility. Check on the event pages for those lunch opportunities before you come. You are welcome to bring food and drink to eat\, and there are several venues in the area around Square One Clubs. We’ll have them posted for your convenience. \nWhile we encourage you to show up for the first event where games are pitched and teams are formed\, if you just can’t make it\, don’t worry. Teams tend to change a little throughout the event\, and it’s always possible to come in late and join a team. \nGood Luck to the Class of 2019!

SUMMARY:Sound Design Workshop
DESCRIPTION:SDC is hosting an educational workshop at Media Posse Studios in Sacramento with Michelle Fuzari from EA Capital Games. Michelle will show you how to effectively use sound and audio to get the most out of your game design. \nAbout your Instructor\nMichelle Fuzari is currently an Audio Artist II at EA Capital Games in Sacramento working on the mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. She has been in the gaming industry for over 4 years at Electronic Arts. She got her start as an intern at EA Mythic in Virginia working on the PC game Warhammer: Wrath of Heroes and the mobile game Ultima Forever. From there she went to EA Salt Lake in Utah and worked on the two mobile games Minions Paradise and Pets: Unleashed. \nMichelle has always been a gamer at heart\, getting her start by watching her father play the games Myst and Doom when she was a child. When she learned that the University of Utah offered a gaming program she immediately jumped on board. During her time as an undergrad and graduate student at the University of Utah\, there weren’t any audio programs nor was anyone in the gaming program doing audio. So\, she took it upon herself to learn the trade as she had always been interested in the world of sound\, and her career took off from there.
